2014 National Day Celebration @ Rosyth

This National Day, we want to build in our children a love for Singapore. We want to celebrate how various ones stood together and cared fr each other to build this nation we call "Home.

As part of our National Day celebration, in our centre we prepare a mini program to cater the talent of the students. Children offer their performace using the songs about Singapore. After that, the children brought some finger foods to share with their friends. The food that they need to bring must be a traditional or any significance in Singapore. We had a show and tell about the food that they brought.

The Children had fun because of the games that we played in the park and the performances that they offer to the class.

A trip to River Safari

Young children learn most through life experiences. Having fields trips will help these young minds submerge into the learning environment with first hand experiences. Field trips are also a way or young children to get out of the school environment and places and do new things.

For this term, our K2 students will learn about "ANIMALS-Sea creatures. We have planned an excursion to the River Safari to help your child understand the distinction between sea and freshwater creatures.

We are able to immersed in the beautiful and mysterious underwater ecosystem of rivers, like the Congo River. Through the massive exhibits, observed how the aquatic animals, like giant freshwater puffer and giraffe catfish, swim and live. We stopped to witness the Giant Panda forest to see Kai Kai and JiaJia. We had our picnkc lunch at Amazon Flooded Forest.

A trip to S.E.A Aquarium @ MARINE LIFE PARK

Field trips represents a creative teaching method that takes students out of the familiar class environment and allows them to experience new things. They also have the opportunity to bond with their friends in a more relaxed atmosphere.

As such, we experienced to visit the elicit view of the S.E.A aquarium @ Marine LIfe PArk. The children did enjoy the great experience because they were able to relate it from our theme sea creatures in our term 3. We immersed in a magical marine world with more than 800 species of marine animals.

We saw the majestic mantra rays, enormous goliath  grouper and other gentle giants of the sea. We the 200 over sharks in the aquarium. And we were engaged in an interactive learning about the knobbly sea star, pencil sea urchin and more at the Discovery Touch Pool.

MY K2's reading Program

As we all know now a days parents and educators are more concern on the reading development of the child. Research shows that kindergarten focuses on the 26 letters of the alphabet. They systematically learn to read and write letters, to associate letters with sounds, to blend letter-sounds to form words and sentences, and to read and write phonetically regular words as well as Memory Words.

As educators it is really good to invest on reading lessons or reading program to the children to learn and explore more. If the children will be able to read and comprehend sentences it is easy for them to solve mathematical problems and sentences cues to help  them improve academically.

My students enjoy our reading program class. It actually help them to enhance more in reading and comprehension skills. They are asked to bring back a book that they will going to read with their parents. Our goal is to let the parents get involve of their child reading development. Both parents and teachers will collaborate for the betterment of the child's reading processes.

Seeking for independence

A 24 years old girl seeking for independence… that was me! 3 years ago my goal was to be as independent as I can possibly be, so when the opportunity came and knocked at my door, I grabbed it with open arms.
Now I’m realizing the struggles of being “INDEPENDENT” and of course loving the perks.
Let me start with the struggles so that I can end this entry on a good note (the perks).
Let’s face it the biggest struggle definitely was, and still is, is the financial battle of “how the heck am I going to budget my Incy wincy salary for a whole freaking month?!?!?”.  This came as a big blow for me for I was financially supported by my ever loving mother who provided my wants and needs in life, though I do understand the value of money and knew how my mother and father worked hard to support me, I still didn't work for it (the money) so spending it was as easy as ABC… gone!
I’m not a fan of numbers, more so now that every time I need to budget my pay check, it seems that numbers loathes me as well because for some reason (bills, bills and other unavoidable expenses) it keeps on depleting rapidly. Ay dios mio! Mind you here in Singapore we only have one payday, in my case every end of the month, so budgeting is a MUST!
Another thing that I struggled with at the beginning was having new friends. IT.WAS.A.BRAWL. difficult I tell you! So… so… so… difficult. I don’t know why this happened with me but for more than a year I didn't make any friends, except the ones from home who happened to be working here as well, I had nada! No friends at all, so I was alone and yeah independent. Let me just quote the meaning of the word “Independent” from an online dictionary, it says “free from the influence, guidance or control of another or others; self-reliant.” Since I didn't have anyone the meaning fitted me like a glove.
I was doing everything on my own, Watching movies, eating in restaurants and strolling around the metro. Etc. etc.
Now with the perks, though I was alone I enjoyed doing all of those by myself, I didn't need to think of anyone but me. I was never late for a date with friends’ because I have non at that time. I didn't need to please anyone, I can go anywhere   and not tell a single soul, I can sleep anywhere I want (as long as I know I’m safe) I didn't need to ask permission ,I was free! The magic word is “FREE!”.
Then I met new friends, a bunch of them, thanks to my new roommate, though I still enjoy doing certain things on my own, nothing beats having friends to share the moment with and post it on social media afterwards to show how happy we were ,at that time, to the world. ;)
The best and worst part of being “Independent” is drum roll please! Decision making, yup ladies and gents the decision making, well for my part that is, if I made wrong decisions, I have no one else to blame but myself, though once in a while I still seek and consult the expert advice of my parents and sometimes my friends, I’m no longer forced to follow other people’s choices for my life because yeah! Baby I am independent, or am still in the process of being one.  If my decision turns out to be the best well then, tap on the shoulders for me but if it turns the other way around, then at least I've learned from it and as much as possible I will avoid choosing that path again.

Our Visit to Gardens by The Bay

My K2 class visited the extraordinary scenes of the Gardens by the Bay. As our theme dwelt on plants and tress, it was a good opportunity for them to explore and discover the realm of plants through various plants, flowers and trees in the garden. It was a extravagant experience because we are able to witness the Singapore Garden Festival. In the Festival they cater different flowers and plants and made it into a beautiful landscape that you cannot even imagine. My children were really amazed about the plants that turned to a gigantic decorations. We are able to witness the beautiful flowers in the Flower Dome and my children had fun exploring the flowers and their habitat. They were able to expose to the reality when they watch the short documentary about the climate and changing world. All in all it was a educational and fun trip for us.
